Recognising local trustees during Trustees’ Week 2026.

As with previous years we will be working in partnership with Volunteer Centre Sutton to deliver a programme of sharing information, training and workshops which will culminate in a speed dating event in January 2027. 

Trustees’ Week is an annual week to celebrate the achievements of nearly one million trustees across the UK.

Good Governance Essentials: for new Trustees

Good governance is vital for the success of any charity, community or faith group.

Strong governance ensures organisations run smoothly, effectively and sustainably. By having clear leadership and management your organisation will be able to achieve its charitable aims and objectives.

This two-hour session will help empower new trustee and committee members to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and tools to govern with confidence.

This session is designed for new trustees and will cover.

• Roles and Responsibilities, defining the different roles and responsibilities including looking at skills, experience and leadership.
• Board Structures, looking at the different types of board structures and choosing the right one for the organisation.
• Risk Management and Legal Requirements, Identifying and managing potential risks and ensuring the charity is compliant with current laws and legislation.
• Charity Finance, learn more about charity finance and the difference between designated, restricted and unrestricted funds, charity banking and preparing annual accounts.

Diversify your Board Workshop

This workshop is designed for existing trustees and committee members who are keen to strengthen their boards by increasing diversity, widening participation and taking a deeper look into the skills, knowledge and experience they currently have.

A diverse board can bring a wider range of skills, knowledge and perspectives to an organisation. Trustees and committee members from different backgrounds can help organisations better understand the communities they work with and bring fresh ideas to help with well balanced and effective decision-making.

This session will explore why diversity matters and how boards and committees can take practical steps to become more inclusive and representative. There will also be practical support for organisations to identify skills gaps and look at how broader knowledge and experience can strengthen their organisation.

This workshop will cover

• The importance of diversity on boards and committees
• How different backgrounds, skills and lived experiences can strengthen boards
• How to use a skills audit to understand existing trustees and committee members knowledge and identify gaps
