People Arise Now

People Arise now are a Small Charity based in the St Helier ward of the London Borough of Sutton. Here’s some more information about this amazing Charity

People Arise Now promotes, supports and advocates for the needs of the most disenfranchised individuals and families in society. We empower people to have voice, develop agency, new skills, encouraging growth through strengths-based support, prioritising and encouraging wellbeing and good mental health. We work holistically and typically focus on those who are in some ways considered the most marginalised people in the community or who consider themselves to be outside of society, including ex-offenders, family members of offenders, those facing disadvantage and young people.

We run a range of projects — such as Rise Up, Community Connect, Through the Gate, and youth-focused programmes like Sutton Youth IAG, the T.L.E Youth Race Summit, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Together United football tournament  — all designed to lift people up and give them the tools and confidence to move forward.

When we took over the day-to-day management of Hill House Community Centre last year, we began running a variety of regular projects — Harmony Yoga, Active Me, Food Shop, Save It and Cook It, Sutton Men in Sheds, and the Community Garden — as well as shorter-term initiatives such as Community Learning and Finger Knitting. We’ve also teamed up with groups like the Early Help & Integrated Youth Justice Service (EHIYJS) and Age UK to continue making it a space that welcomes and supports people of all ages and backgrounds.

Thanks to Community Learning funding, we’ve also been able to offer English courses for employment, particularly for adults new to the UK who are eager to return to work. Our first course concluded in June, and a second group began just last week, on 13 June. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants saying the course helped them gain not only practical skills but also confidence — and we’re delighted to share that some have already received job offers.

Baraa Kasab came as an immigrant to her husband. She was awarded indefinite leave to remain and had a Card but wasn’t a citizen nor did she have a passport. We support her to get citizenship and supported her and her daughter to get British Passports. (Rise Up)
